Retrain your brain in 3 simple steps

You’re a fraud, an imposter, unqualified. No one will listen to you. What you have to say isn’t important. No one cares. You should just let the pros do the work. There are so many people who can do this better than you.

These are the attacks I get. Pretty mean, huh?

Well, ya, especially since they come from within myself.

You may not be able to control a thought popping into your head, but you can choose to let it pass by or attack it with truth.

Here’s a 3-step hack for retraining your brain.

  1. Recognize a negative thought not with judgement, but curiosity. “This is hard. I might as well not even try.” Hmm, that was a negative thought. I wonder where that came from and what it’s about.
  1. Reframe or interpret the destructive thought differently. “This is hard, and I’m scared.”  I’ve done plenty of hard things before, so I’m going to do my best. I can and will do hard things.
  1. Reel in truth. For me, this means meditating on Scripture, repeating a mantra, and saying affirmations about the truth.

So, those are three steps you can use to redirect that negative-thought spiral. Did any of this resonate with you?
